Following a narrow defeat at Newcastle on Sunday, Monarchs head down the road to Kings Lynn in search of more Premier League points.
However, considering our record at the Norfolk Arena is about as impressive as the UK?s recent Eurovision Song Contest entrants, it?s fair to say I expect to leave empty handed!
The Stars are a powerhouse outfit (although I still don?t think they?ll win the League) and will more than likely rack up a return in excess of 60 points so, if we somehow reach 30, I?ll be absolutely delighted!
Of course, if we are to gain a reasonable score, we will need all our guys to chip in, especially the heat leaders. Unfortunately George Stancl, who was outstanding at Brough Park, hasn?t always reserved his best performances for this venue, so that?s not exactly a good start!
But while George has had numerous visits to Kings Lynn, I must admit I?m not at all sure if Kaj Laukkanen has ever ridden the track before. Certainly, if he has, it wasn?t in recent years, so let?s hope he enjoys grippy circuits!
Our big hope for points scoring must come in the shape of ex Star (even though he still is one, if you know what I mean!) Matthew Wethers. Matthew is still hugely popular with the locals and will receive a very friendly welcome.
Both Captain Derek Sneddon and young reserve Andrew Tully are probably more used to visiting the Norfolk Arena representing the Dale Devils rather than the Monarchs but they will no doubt look to put that experience to good use and pick up what they can.
Tomorrow also sees the continuation of Kalle Katajisto?s speedway education. Quite what he?ll make of the surface remains to be seen (remember, he only has small arms!!) and, following his major toils of last season, I would imagine Daniele Tessari will be chuffed he?s sitting this one out!
Our Italian?s replacement is, as always, a Conference League guest. In this instance, that means a call up for Weymouth?s Nathan Irwin. While wishing him good luck, I have to say it?s at times like these I wish Tony Rickardsson would purchase a wig and reinvent himself on a 3 point average... maybe then we might have half a chance?!!
Kings Lynn?s top men are Tomas Topinka and new Scottish Open Champion Daniel Nermark. Both are extremely difficult to beat around their own patch, as can be seen by ?without bonus point? home averages of 10.31 and 10.10 respectively (thank you to the Premier League speedway website for that information). Not that any the others are exactly slouches of course! In fact, looking at their figures, I can only hope we beat Benji Compton a few times, otherwise the evening might become very long and terribly embarrassing!
