After standing one step below top spot on the podium for the previous two years Sam Masters produced a sterling nights work to first catch and then overtake Justin Sedgmen to finally claim his first Australian senior title at the final round at Kurri Kurri.

The final round of the Australian Championship took place at Kurri Kurri in New South Wales on Saturday. Sam Masters has finished second in the Championship in each of the last two years and went into the final round three points behind Justin Sedgmen but had surged into the overall lead by his third ride and had the title wrapped up before contesting the A Final.

It was a past and present Monarchs 1-2-3 in the third round of the Australian titles at Undera. Taking the victory in fine style was a clearly delighted Justin Sedgmen by narrowly heading home Sam Masters with Max Fricke in third. Rounding out the top four was leading qualifier Troy Batchelor who seemd to get caught out at the start and couldn't make an impression on the other three.

The third round of the Australian Championship took place at Undera on Wednesday evening and our old favourite, Justin Sedgmen, now heads the Championship four points ahead of Sam Masters.

We are sorry to report that Gill Vass, Monarchs’ supporter of 35 years standing, has lost her fight against illness. Gill and family (from Danderhall) had been regulars watching Monarchs home and away.

Double delight for Monarchs fans at the second round of the Australian titles at Mildura with Sam Masters holding off the persistent challenges of Max Fricke to win the round, and Josh Pickering beaten on a countback for the last place in the semi final line up after scoring eight points.

The Australian Championship moved to Mildura on Saturday and Sam Masters rode a great race in the final to hold off Max Fricke for the win. Sam is now third in the Championship and has closed the gap on second placed Justin Sedgmen and leader Davy Watt.

In the most even Australian title field for years Sam Masters quickly discovered there were going to be no easy points on offer and would have been disappointed to only pick up a semi final placing when in the previous two years he had taken the silver medal and would have been hoping to go one better this year.
