With just three race winners in a home meeting, the Scotwaste Monarchs managed to hang on for a draw against King's Lynn.

It was a good result for the Stars who went into the match without Daniel Nermark who had an ankle injury.

Monarchs opened with a 5-1, but from then on struggled to gain control of the match. .

A 5-1 in heat 8 gave Monarchs a 6-point lead but the Stars gradually whittled that away over the closing stages. They took a 4-2 in the final heat, with Theo Pijper splitting top visitors Topinka and Doolan, who won 8 races between them.

More importantly perhaps, Mills (2), Harding and Batchelor also won heats, and Monarchs will have to do something to address their lack of heat winners.

Gating was the key factor on a slick track.
