NINE POINT DEFEAT AT REDCAR

Inconsistent performances and a lack of heat winners contributed to our defeat at Redcar.

Other than the out-of-touch Matthew Wethers, everyone had at least one good ride, but only Andrew Tully and Henrik Moller scored in every race.

We went ahead after a heat 2 5-1, won by Andrew Tully in a time bettered only twice during the evening!

Four heats and three 1-5's later we were facing a defecit we never looked like recovering.

Ronnie Correy only really found his best form in heat 15, which he had to effectively win twice. He led on the opening lap until Chris Kerr lifted and fell on the pits corner, and he did it again beating Grieves in the rerun.

Other than that, his gating wasn't sharp enough.

Henrik Moller had his bike go on fire prior to the match but in fact rode reasonably well, passing Giffard in heat 1, and scoring a 6-pointer in heat 8.

We also had a glimpse of what may be Daniele Tessari's problem. His first ride was poor, then he was forced onto Henrik's machine for heat 7 as his own wouldn't start. He flew from the tapes and enjoyed a great battle with Matt Tresarrieu, just losing out on the last lap.

Back on his own bike later, he did little.

And if we are talking about inconsistency, how about William Lawson? A terrible ride in heat 7 resulted in Jamie Courtney gaining his only point, then in heat 10 he flew from gate 4, headed Gary Havelock and hung on to narrowly give the home captain his only defeat!

Derek Sneddon had a quiet night by his standards, but Andrew Tully was impressive and exciting, attacking the turns and riding both high and low on the banked bends.

It was a good meeting with some enjoyable racing but the home top four were the dominant riders - each of Havelock, Grieves, Kerr and Tresarrieu lost points in only one of their heats.

We now take on Berwick at home on Friday night.
