At last we had a fine evening and a dry track, and the riders responded with some thrilling racing as the Scotwaste Monarchs beat King's Lynn 54-39.

William Lawson led the way and the others, while not necessarily at their very best, all did something and scored well.

Derek Sneddon hit double figures, while for the Stars Tomas Topinka was brilliant and Shane Parker (after a slow start) also reached double figures.

There was no shortage of good heats but the standout was surely heat 13 in which Parker and Lawson fought a great tussle, trying to out-think as well as outpace each other before Lawson took the heat on the final turn.

King's Lynn certainly didn't give up even though they fell 2-10 behind in the first two heats. They used both a TR and a TS and kept battling to the end.
