Scotwaste Monarchs new signings for the 2013, Max Fricke and Sam Masters, are making their final preparations down under before setting out on their journey to the Northern Hemisphere for the British season.

Both riders were due to race their final meeting of the Australian summer season at Kurri Kurri on Saturday night. It was to be the annual staging of the Johnnie Hoskins Founders Cup but whilst we were enjoying gloriously sunny weather here in Scotland it rained and rained and rained in New South Wales and the meeting was called off twenty four hours before the scheduled start time.

With no equipment based in this country at the moment Max Fricke is busy, this week, crating up bikes and engines ready for them to be flown into this country later this month. Max himself will be setting out from his Mansfield, Victoria, home in the middle of this month for his flight to Edinburgh. To help him settle in this country he will be joined by his parents, Lisa and Rodger for the first month of his stay.

Sam Masters is a little more laid back in his preparations. He’s done it all before but what he’s not done before is race for three teams in Europe. Of course, in addition to racing for the Scotwaste Monarchs in the Premier League he will also be turning out for Wolverhampton in the Elite League. If that doesn’t make him busy enough he will also be racing in Poland for Rybnik, the home town team of one time Monarch, Darek Fliegert.

Exciting times ahead for our young Aussies.
