It looks like the weather will be (very) kind to us on Monday as we attempt to get our Premier League season underway with a visit to Scunthorpe.

With temperatures of 18 degrees and sunshine forecast the Scotwaste Monarchs will be moving into territory unknown for our first league encounter. Hopefully sunstroke will not be a problem.

We’ve always done reasonably well at the Eddie Wright Raceway but it is a difficult track to ride and defend a lead as there are so many racing lines. The position was well demonstrated on the Sky TV match on Tuesday when it looked like home star David Howe chose incorrectly by hugging the white line in the vital heat 15 only to see Craig Cook blasting round the outside of him for a draw securing win.

The Scorpions have strengthened their team for our visit by bringing in Lewis Blackbird to replace Josh Bates and they still have five of last season’s league winning team in their line-up.

Jozsef Tabaka guested for Workington on Saturday night and helped them to a win. Claus Vissing was in Poland on Sunday and his paid 12 from five help Krosno to a three point win over Rybnik. He’s due to fly into Manchester at lunchtime before dashing across to Lincolnshire.

It would be great to start our league campaign with a win but even one match point would be excellent against a strong team.
