It was straight to bed for Claus and Jozsef on Friday night after the meeting as they were up very early on Saturday morning for a Ryanair flight at twenty past six in the morning to Bratislava in Slovakia.

But that was the start of their journey as they then had a road journey of more than four hours to get to the South Hungary town of Morahalom for the Mayor’s Cup challenge between the home team and Debrecen where Jozsef lives.

The Morahalom track is the brainchild of former Glasgow favourite Robert Nagy and this was the opening meeting at the track. Robert’s son Patrik lined up for the home team as did Claus and Jozsef was in the opposition. Our boys did very well by top scoring for their respective teams, both with 13. It took Claus six rides and a tactical to reach that score but for Jozsef it was only five rides and his only defeat from a member of the Morahalom team came from Magnus Zetterstrom. Debrecen won the meeting 49 to 43.

Claus moved on to Poland on Sunday where his team, Krosno, had a Polish League Division II match at Pila. It was a big win for Krosno by 53 to 37 and Claus was the top scorer with 12 and a bonus.

Claus is doing well in Britain, Poland and even Hungary but is unable to get into his Danish team such is their strength. It could be that he will have to move to another team in his homeland so that he can get some racing in the Super League.

Jozsef Tabaka has managed to get a ride for his Polish team yet. He’s on the books of Lodz and because they practice on a Friday night he has not been able to show them how good he is. However, he has been given an opportunity to start in their match on 26th May but he’s confirmed that he’ll be at Glasgow that day so it could be a wee while before he’s gets another chance.
