  Edinburgh Monarchs

For the second weekend in a row the Edinburgh Scotwaste Monarchs followed a comfortable home win with a splendid away victory but it meant something different to two of our riders!

First of all, our American superstar Aaron Fox broke his scoring duck and collected his first points in the blue and gold. After two 'Audis' on his score sheets he bagged a paid five at home and a third place at Berwick. Maybe not quite a 'monkey on his back' but he must surely be delighted that he is now scoring points in the difficult number two position. It looks like his recent visit to Cumbria for a one-to-one tutorial with Craig Cook paid dividends! And talking of Cookie, he probably wasn't too disappointed at dropping a solitary point in heat six of the home match to Claus Vissing. Should he have gone many weeks scoring a maximum in every match, the pressure might just have got to him but now he's dropped that point he can continue through the season holding the mantle of the league's number one rider just as we know he is!

I'm going to chat for a minute about Steve Worrall. He's developing into one of the best current reserves in the league and is the type of rider that quietly goes about his business and scores bags of points without causing a fuss. Believe it or not he has an unofficial Calculated Match Average of 9.78 for the four matches so far this year? Incredible! His only last place was in his first ride in our colours! He must definitely be heading for the team proper come the Green Sheet averages. Not bad for a three-pointer!

Well it wasn't too chilly down at Shielfield last Saturday! I thought the track was pretty good and there was some good racing. I particularly noted the determination of Craig and Sam to the first bend in Heat 15. There were a fair few Monarchs fans on the back straight as usual and they were in fine voice. Auntie reckons she is a lucky omen as we seem to do well when she travels with me so I'm taking her to Workington this Saturday! Can we do a third double in three weeks? Incidentally, at Berwick, Auntie's chips score was 5/10!

We've taken note of the lights problem at the stadium. Hopefully they'll all be in perfect working order for this Friday. We'll have to get in a large supply of flourescent tubes as it seems they're regularly going out!

This Workington team coming up looks tasty. Spearheaded by Josh Grajczonek and the in-form Rene Bach the Comets will be looking to turn us over but no way that'll happen. We're too good! So, till Friday. Be good and take care.
