WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT

What a huge disappointment to everyone at the Scotwaste Monarchs when news came through at midday on Tuesday that the meeting at Peterborough had been postponed due to "health and safety issues."

The team, with the exception of Stevie Worrall, had stayed overnight in their hotel in Scunthorpe and had enjoyed some fine dining and one or two celebratory drinks on Monday evening. In fine form on Tuesday morning at the breakfast table they were eagerly anticipating the match later in the day.

At about eleven o'clock everybody started moving out of the hotel for the eighty mile trip to Peterborough. It was a beautiful day with the sun shining and temperatures in the late morning creeping up to 18 degrees. No one had any thoughts of the impending call off.

The telephone call confirming the postponement arrived at midday and proved, to everyone, to be unbelievable. It was all the more bizarre that the call came at that time as it has subsequently transpired that Peterborough Arena, the controlling organisation, had tweeted at five to ten in the morning that the match had been cancelled. Why the Peterborough management did not make us aware of the cancellation at that time we do not know and await an explanation but had they done so we would have been able to prevent anyone travelling further south and would have been able to inform supporters who were staying at the team's hotel that the match was cancelled.

Stevie Worrall missed out on all of this. He had rushed to Swindon to play in the wet on Monday evening. He had enjoyed a cheese sandwich before returning home and had not set out for Peterborough when the call off news came.

No new date has been set for our return to Peterborough.
