Heavy rain at Sheffield which began to fall less than two hours before start time brought the postponement of Scotwaste Monarchs league clash with Tigers just an hour later.

The team members travelling north from Somerset on Thursday had experienced one or two showers on their journey but Stevie Worrall who had returned to his St Helens home after Somerset was travelling from the north to the match and described, at just fifteen minutes out from Sheffield, how he was passing through a "tropical storm".

With heavy rain still falling at six thirty meeting referee Chris Durno, undertook a track inspection and on his return to the pits said that the top surface of the track was now saturated and racing was not possible.

A restaging date for the match will be confirmed in due course although Sheffield already have matches scheduled for every Thursday up to the cut off date.

The rain off allows the team to be home much earlier and have more time to prepare on Friday for the top of the table clash with Somerset. Wednesday's match at the Oak Tree Arena produced the biggest league attendance there this season and the Scotwaste Monarchs management anticipate a similar attendance on Friday especially as a dry day is forecast.
