  Edinburgh Monarchs

The warm sun at Peterborough on Sunday afternoon may well be have been the last I feel on my head this year but for the Edinburgh Scotwaste Monarchs, October is hotting up to be a scorcher!

A win was always looking good at Alwalton for the Incredible Seven and the team successfully negotiated the first fixture of the treble. To be honest, I hope speedway is not finished there at what is one of the best tracks in the country. Lets cross our fingers for them. Yes, the sun! We could have done with it at Armadale last Friday. It was looking good when I arrived at the track about 3pm but, just before it was time to let the riders in, heavy spots of rain started to fall, quite contrary to the weather forecast on my mobile. Not for the first time this season it's been wrong so that app has now been uninstalled! For most of us it would be a weekend of no speedway as Rusty Harrison's Testimonial scheduled for Workington the following day was also postponed due to the rain! But with my navigator, I travelled down South on Saturday and didn't get to the hotel until nearly eleven o'clock. I was looking for junction 16 on the A1(M) but wondered why there was a sign that said London 77 miles! Yes, you've guessed it. We were on the M1! Easy mistake to make, no? Still, the bar was open!

Fast forward to Monday morning and I woke up to learn that we are having another double header this Friday. Never desirable, but we're getting quite good at them now! Newcastle are going to be on first for the Knockout Cup semi-final first leg and Peterborough will be on closely after for the second leg of the League Cup so, all things going to plan, the first element of the triple will be in the bag and a trophy on the shelf by the end of the evening!

It's always difficult to know what sort of a lead we'd want to take for the second leg of the semi down at Newcastle on Sunday. Our record there this year has been good but you can be sure that the Diamonds will be well fired up for this encounter and we certainly won't have it our own way! I hope as many fans as possible will make the trip down. We normally have a good travelling support there but isn't it a smug feeling driving home with a good result under our belts?

Friday first though and, as usual, I look forward to having a chat with you on the way in. Don't forget it's a 7pm sharp start so be nice and early as there is bound to be a big crowd.
