We went down 56-37 at Ashfield in our first match of the season, but were boosted by a superb captain's display by Sam Masters who scored 17.

It was always going to be tough against as strong a team as Glasgow and it seems unlikely that many teams will come away from Ashfield with a point. It was mainly about seeing how our riders would come out of the traps for season 2016.

Obviously we have built a team to improve and the aim will be to do better when we return for the League.

Kevin Wolbert and Ryan Fisher got amongst the points, and Erik Riss finished with a trademark heat 14 win though that was assisted a bit by a broken chain for Ben Barker!

Our new boys Jye Etheridge and Dan Bewley didn't score but Jye was in a scoring position up to the final turn a couple of times.

Captain Masters dropped his only point to Aaron Summers in heat 11, but won four races including a six-pointer as early as heat 5. He can be delighted with his dominant display.

Most of the home men were amongst the points and they must be especially pleased with the way no. 7 Danny Ayres has started the season.

We now look forward to Friday's opening home match against Berwick who made a good start to their campaign last night, and whose team contains the two most experienced Armadale specialists in the country!
