Cameron has Wintered Well

Our new Aussie Cameron Heeps already has his season under way and has done pretty well in his matches for Ipswich so far. We'll be meeting him on Friday for the first time as a Monarch but he already sounds very confident that he is going to enjoy his new surroundings.

We asked him how he has spent his winter. "I wouldn't say I've been working but my girlfriend has a horse yard and I've been kind of the handyman about the place just doing little bits and bobs.

"I went back to Australia for five or six weeks, did a little bit of riding there. Then I came back and cracked on with the bikes.

"I'm pleased with the bikes, I've got another engine I've just bought that I tested on Thursday and was happy with. I have another engine to try which I am saving for practise day at Edinburgh and I'm confident all will be good."

Cameron's scores so far have been 6 at Leicester in spite of a fall, and 8+1 in the return at Foxhall Heath. He has another outing at Ipswich on Thursday. He said "I would like to have scored a few more at Leicester and I think I would if I hadn't crashed. I was in front but made a little mistake. I had my wrist checked and they were a bit worried at first but it's an old injury. I'm ready for Thursday then up to Edinburgh for Friday."

Ipswich fans are confident he will score well for them, which should mean that he will be extremely effective for us in the Championship! "That's the plan, I've been at Ipswich for a few years and probably crashed a bit last year through trying too hard, but I feel like I'm in the best shape of my life. Being at reserve for Ipswich will help, and Edinburgh is a track I enjoy coming to so it will do me a lot of good confidence wise.

"We're good to go!"
