There's bad news indeed for one of the most popular of the Monarchs' Academy riders Kyran Lyden, who has multiple fractures following the match on Saturday against Belle Vue Colts.
He says "I've battered myself a bit, it's uncomfortable. I went to hospital, I've fractured my fingers, my skull, my back in two places and my neck. I fell three times but I think the last one was the one which did the damage. I thought I was all right at first.
"I've got a neck collar on at the minute, I've to wear it for six weeks. I'm going to see a spine specialist tomorrow. I'll be off work for a bit I am afraid.
"That last crash was my own fault, the others were just racing incidents.
"I enjoyed making a pass on the two number ones in the first race. 'Listen to the move' Havvy used to say to me. I haven't had much racing this season but I thought in that meeting on Saturday I was doing all right, I felt good."
The Academy no. 2 had started the night with one of the best moves of his time at Armadale to put him ahead of the respective no. 1s Connor Coles and William Cairns as they headed down the back straight, racing into the second lap clearly in front.
Kyran then spun off and it was the first of three tumbles for him during the evening. His pass on Cairns must be his best moment so far and one to give encouragement when he returns.
As well as his heat one fall, Kyran had some treatment after a first bend tangle in heat 8, then came down again in the rerun attempting a big outside overtake.
His cheerful personality will be missed in the pits. Unfortunately it will be some weeks anyway till Kyran can think about returning. He'll be welcomed back when the time comes.
