Edinburgh Monarchs
Stellar Monarchs will soon be back to full strength and delighted to welcome 34-year-old Danish racer Michael Palm Toft into the side, the former Scunthorpe man replacing the recently departed Oskar Polis.
Palm Toft has been a target of recent years but availability of rider and team space at Armadale has never matched up, but the Odense born racer is happy that these have now met and is eager to get going saying, "I am really looking forward to getting to ride for the Monarchs.
"It has been a few years we have been talking back and forth but nothing has really come out of it. I guess circumstance has made it possible now, here we are, and I can't wait to get started."
With a British career that dates back to 2011 it was unusual to see Palm Toft on the sidelines as the season kicked off, a mix of circumstance that has left him eager to get going again, "It was a mixed bag of a lot of things, I did actually have a contract on the table from a club.
"They made a 180-degree change last minute and said they didn't want to agree to the terms we had agreed to. So, I got told take it or leave it, so I said well I'll leave it then.
"I decided to take some more time to get over the injuries I had last year and just work really. I was in a different position than ever in that I also have a full time job so it was just one of them where I thought i'll take a bit of time out, get over the injury, and get hungry to get back on the bike so it was a funny situation but it has worked out and I am hungry to get back."
Looking over his new teammates the 2012 League Championship Winner is confident that success can follow for the Monarchs as he brings additional firepower to the heat leader department, "It is a team with lots of potential in it.
"There are a lot of good riders that can score well home and away as they have a lot of experience. I think it is only really Jonathan Grahn who is new to British Speedway so I think we will be one of the better teams the rest of the way and when I get going back to full power it will be good to be in with the rest of the boys as well and I think we can go well."
Adding to this belief is a fantastic recent record at Armadale including four heat wins in Scunthorpe's victory at Armadale last year, Palm-Toft ready to make his new home shale his own, "Armadale is a track I always look forward to going to when it comes up in the fixtures.
"I am really looking forward to calling it my home track and making something out of it for myself and making it a home fortress."
The Monarchs faithful will no doubt match this excitement at seeing Palm Toft take to the Armadale shale this time with a Blue and Gold race suit however they will have to wait slightly with the variances of the averages meaning he cannot be introduced until June 1st so a debut will come at Armadale against Oxford next week.
