Stellar Monarchs battled hard but for no reward as they went down 53-37 at Ashfield on Friday night meaning a top of the table spot for the Tigers and a wait before the Monarchs playoff spot is guaranteed.

There were bright spots for the Monarchs as Jordy Loftus had a fine night and Michael Palm Toft had probably his best night for the Blue and Gold recording 11 as the Dane said after, 'The playoffs are a funny thing and we are coming in as underdogs after tonight but all I'll say is don't write us off.

'We didn't all click tonight and who knows if we come here again let's see what happens.'

The Armadale men came into the encounter knowing a point was needed to guarentee progression but the hosts were ready from the off.

Heat advantages in heats one, three, five and seven gave the home men the upper hand and they couldn't be pulled back.

There were moments for the Monarchs throughout but with home men Nagel, Thompson, Flint and Howarth only defeated once each it was an uphill battle that the Monarchs couldn't overcome.

So, its wait and see for the Monarchs as they look to Workington to drop a point that will secure a playoff semi final encounter final between the Scottish rivals once again
