With the massive Cab Direct Championship Play Off against Glasgow just hours away, we count down some of the all-time best derby moments.

  1. 1949 – Biggest Scottish Derby Attendance

    We don't have all the records, but the 25,400 recorded on 23rd July has surely never been exceeded. Monarchs won by a whopping 61-23 – a figure we won't top this Friday!

  2. 1988 – Tigers Arrive at Shawfield

    Opening night, 15th April, Tigers win 50-46 in front of a huge crowd. They made it a double on 17th April, winning 48-47 at Powderhall. Separate competitions, but Tigers were back!

  3. 2003 – Double 18-Point Away Wins

    In our first Championship year, Frede Schott led us to a 37-55 win in the League on 31st August, then we returned to win 36-54 in the Scottish Cup on 5th October.

  4. 2008 – Two Narrow Ashfield Wins in a Week

    5th & 12th October – last heat 5-0 gave Monarchs a one-point win in the Scottish Cup, then a 2-4, 2-4, 1-5 finish brought a two-point league win!

  5. Opening Night at Armadale

    4th April 1997 – after a year at Shawfield we arrived at our current home. It was raining of course, but it was the start of something special, even though Tigers won 47-43 to land the Easter Trophy.

  6. The First Scottish Cup Final

    28th July & 8th August 1951 – the competition also included Ashfield and Motherwell but Monarchs and Tigers made the final. Monarchs edged it 108-106, with Jack Young head-to-head with Tommy Miller.

  7. The First-Ever Monarchs v Tigers

    17th April 1948 – Monarchs race at Old Meadowbank for the first time and do quite well to lose only 39-44 against a more experienced Glasgow side.

  8. 2015 League Cup Final

    25th & 27th September – another national trophy with Monarchs and Tigers in the final. Monarchs win 100-79 in the second year of our greatest winning period.

  9. 1994 National League KO Cup Final

    14th & 16th October – Tigers win 101-91, over 3,000 in Powderhall to witness a great heat one last bend double overtake by Les Collins. Glasgow did the "double-double" of league and cup in 1993-94.

  10. 2015 Premier Play Off Final

    16th & 17th October 2015 – the biggest prize we've ever raced the Tigers for. Monarchs win 99-80, League title clinched for the second year running by a Cook–Masters 5-1.
