Monarchs' starlet Jordy Loftus won a couple of heats this afternoon and was well in the thick of the action, finishing fifth in the British Under-19 Championship at Workington The competition was won by Luke Harrison of Scunthorpe from Jody Scott and 15 year old Cooper Rushen.

The meeting provided plenty of good racing, especially as the lines developed during the afternoon. Early on the inside was the place to be and the first five race winners came from gate 1, but later on both the inside and outside lines were productive resulting in some unpredictable and exciting racing. All of the riders acquitted themselves well and even the low scorers had some good moments.

Jordy won his opening hear beating Workington reserve Vinny Foord, and was also impressive second time out in heat 7 when he chased the talented Rushen hard and also defeated reigning champion Ace Pijper.

He slipped up slightly in heat 10 when he was only third behind Will Cairns and Ryan Ingram but bounced brilliantly to race away with heat 16 ahead of Ben Trigger and Max Perry who had their own duel for second place, well behind.

At that point Jordy was on 9 and as it turned out would have made the race off for the title if he had won heat 17. He didn't though, taking a third behind Luke Harrison and Jody Scott but ahead of Freddy Hodder. That was enough for fifth place and we should remember while Jordy might not be the youngest in the field, he may well have ridden fewer laps than any of the others.

Several riders might have come out on top but probably the unluckiest was Vinnie Foord who needed a win in heat 19, and looked like doing it as he took the lead only to fall heavily, possibly with a machine defect.

That set up a 3-man runoff which finished Harrison, Scott, Rushen, the result probably owing something to gate positions as by this time the track had become slicker.

The two riders perhaps most successful with Edinburgh connection this season have been the Hague brothers who again featured strongly in the British Youth Champiponship races which followed the Under-19 event. Lewis was the winner of the 125cc Final, while Calum was second to Douglas Marshall in the support event.
